What was once an 80's galley kitchen is now a modern, open plan kitchen with an over-sized island. Walnut base cabinets are accented with crisp white counters and glossy white uppers. A full height pantry and refrigerator create a symmetrical elevation over the sink, and floating shelves create a perch for decorative items in the 'dining room.' Decorative light fixtures add flavor to both the island and the table. As seen in Boston Globe Magazine, May 2017.
What the pretty pictures don't show...no construction project goes off with out a challenge. All major appliances were required to remain in existing locations due to structural constraints in the existing building, making a modern space planning difficult. This space also had shallow ceiling heights, with little to no room for a functioning hood or duct work for the range. The studio worked with the general contractor and various subcontractors to make the best of an old building with awkward dimensions.
